Dust

This idea was extremely difficult to get right. I had to juggle my lamp in one hand and the talcum powder in the other. It took me over an hour before I called it a day, and stop trying to shoot it exactly as I pictured. I think I had the sandman in mind for this shot. It is supposed to be as if i'm the keeper of dreams, the ruler of my subconcious world in this shot. The talc pwder didn't work too well mixed with the glitter, I think the glitter was weighed down by the powder, so it refused to move an inch, or I wasn't blowing hard enough, but I didn't want it to look like a dust cloud but more like a stream of dust.
Altered the image levels alittle on one of my computer programs that came withthe camera. Highlighted the hand and the surrounding area, by changing the contrast. The dust blowing away is the most important.

  1. I absolutely love this! I remember in class when you were editing it, the atmosphere that you have created is amazing with the use of light and shadow. You seem have to have such imaginative ideas when creating your self portraits and you are able to let your viewers make a connection with the photograph. I find your style of work fascinating!

  2. Aw, thanks! I think the colour was more of a "fluke" kind of thing than anything else. I didn't realise the florescent light would give the picture a blue hue. Yeah I like creating a different realm or world, or how ever you put it, in my pictures. I like the idea of transporting the viewer to a different kind of reality- If i'm making any sense at all, lol. I was thinking of taking my pictures down a surreal root.

  3. I am searching in these images. That is a good thing. I am looking for little details, as you have given us so little, they have more importance. Great use of your frame, and again - as with all your images - great sense of light. I can't help but this this is just one image out of a series of many.
